Cornhole itself is one of the best ways to while away a summer afternoon with your family and friends.
However, the simple game can be made even more exciting with the addition of an alcoholic beverage or two.
Cornhole doesn’t demand much physical activity, and the rules are very easy to follow, which makes this backyard classic a great option for a drinking game.
But how do you turn cornhole into a drinking game?
Despite the simplicity of cornhole, there are several options when it comes to cornhole drinking games.
In this article, we’ll explore some of our favorite options that you can try out this summer.
Hole-in-One Drink
Sometimes referred to as ‘drink as you go’ or ‘steady sipping’, this game is definitely the most simple way to transform standard cornhole into a fun cornhole drinking game.
In this game, you play cornhole just as you normally would.
The only difference is that whenever the opposite team scores a hole-in-one shot, you and your teammates have to sip your alcohol.
The amount of alcohol you consume depends entirely on the skill level of the opposing team.
If they’ve got a team member who played cornhole professionally, you can expect plenty of holes-in-one!
Raise the Stakes
One of the best aspects of cornhole is that it doesn’t take long to complete a round.
For this game, each team should decide on the number of drinks and wager it.
Both teams should then carry out a regular cornhole game.
By the end of the game, the members of the losing team need to drink however many drinks they wagered at the start of the game.
Competitive Drinking
This drinking game encourages both teams to drink but leads to one team drinking a whole lot more than the other team.
As with the above games, carry out a normal game of cornhole.
At the end of each half-inning, all players need to take however many drinks to equate to the points scored against them.
For example, if a team has 6 points scored against them, then each team member has to take 6 drinks.
Alternatively, if a team only has 3 points scored against them, then they only have to take 3 drinks.
To win cornhole, you need to score 21 or more points.
This means that in the last round the losing team will have to take 21 sips – or potentially more!
Drinks for fouls
This drinking game is pretty straightforward, and the instructions are exactly as implied by the title.
Whenever you throw a foul, you have to take a drink.
However, as experienced cornhole players know, fouls are likely to occur often to newbies.
For this reason, those who are just being initiated into the beautiful game that is cornhole will likely end up taking more drinks than those who are experienced.
A foul occurs whenever a player’s foot goes past the foot foul line.
Fouls also occur when a player attempts to throw their bean bag at the cornhole board when it is not their turn.
Normally, a foul means that the player misses their turn.
However, in this instance, it means that they have to take an extra sip of alcohol!
This game may not be the most exciting option if you’re playing with a bunch of experienced players.
In this instance, we’d recommend combining this drinking game with another.
Knock the Bag
Good quality cornhole boards are supposed to be smooth, so it’s easy to get the other team drinking with this fun game.
All you need is a good aim!
Once you throw your bags at the board, they stay there until the next round.
Your opponent, therefore, has to throw their bags over your own.
If they successfully knock one of your bags off, you need to take a sip!
As with the last game, it’s a good idea to combine this game with another.
Although fun, some players get too focused on knocking off their opponent’s bags that they forget to play the game!
Hole-in-One Race
If you’d like to give your cornhole boards a slightly different purpose, you could try a hole-in-one race.
In this game, the object is to score as many holes in one as possible.
Each team gets 20 bags, and whoever has the most holes in one by the end is declared the winner.
The losing team either has to take a shot of the winning team’s choosing.
Alternatively, they have to drink however many holes-in-one the winning team attained.
Round of Shots
This cornhole drinking game follows the same rules as the standard, with an extra round added on.
At the end of each round, all players take a sip of alcohol.
Then, both teams partake in a bonus round.
This bonus round doesn’t affect the overall score, but it does determine which of the two teams has to drink more!
Each team is given three additional bags.
Whoever scores the highest using these three bags are the winner, while the losers have to drink a shot chosen by the opposing team.
Final Thoughts
There are plenty of cornhole drinking games that can turn your cornhole set into a proper friendly gathering!
Although fun, don’t go overboard with cornhole drinking games, and always drink responsibly.
